Surge Completes Sweep of Triple Play Classic

Midwest Surge completed the sweep of the Triple Play Classic to finish the 2017 Summer Season. 15u Surge played clean all weekend, going 4-0 and ultimately surviving the 8 team field. 16u White, after playing sub par in pool play, snuck into the Winner’s bracket as the 8 seed. The team came alive, knocking off the 1 seed, 4 seed and 2 seed to cap off their improbable run and end their season on a high note.

18u Blue ended their season in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 walk-off win over Herrin’s 17u Blue squad. With 2 outs in the top of the 7th down 2-1 and a runner on first, 17u tied the game with a base to right field on a hit and run. In extra innings, 18u took the momentum after doubling off a runner at third on a failed suicide squeeze attempt. In the bottom half of the inning, Jake Minor’s single with one out and a runner secured the game and a tournament championship for Chris Lozano’s squad, many of whom having been playing for him and the Surge for their entire high school career.
